Clean sheet and win to nil differ at 0-0
The published clean-sheet rule focuses on conceding:
“the nominated team not conceding any goals to their opponents”
Win to nil requires a goal by the named team as well as no goal by the opponent.

Zero conceded is not always a win to nil
Clean sheet asks only whether the named team concedes. Win to nil also requires that team to win.
For the home team:
- Home clean sheet: home concedes zero, so 0‑0 counts.
- Home win to nil: home scores one or more and concedes zero.
- Home to win: the opponent can score, so 2‑1 and 3‑2 count.
For the away team, reverse the score positions. A 0-2 score is an away win to nil and an away clean sheet.
What does "No win to nil" mean? Under the cited product definition, No wins in every counted score state except one where the named team wins without conceding. It therefore wins at 0-0 and 2-1, but loses at 1-0 for a home-team selection. Confirm whether the market names the home team, away team or either team before applying that matrix.

A home clean-sheet selection does not require the home team to score. A home win-to-nil selection does not require a particular winning margin. Scores such as 1-0, 2-0 and 5‑0 all qualify.
Calculate fair clean-sheet and win-to-nil odds
Use a complete score distribution for the market period. Suppose a model assigns these probabilities to scores where the away team has zero:
- 0‑0: 8%;
- 1‑0: 12%;
- 2‑0: 8%;
- home scores three or more, away scores zero: 4%.
Home clean‑sheet probability:
8% + 12% + 8% + 4% = 32%
Fair home clean‑sheet odds:
1 / 0.32 = 3.13
Home win‑to‑nil probability removes 0‑0:
12% + 8% + 4% = 24%
Fair home‑win‑to‑nil odds:
1 / 0.24 = 4.17
The entire difference is the model's 0‑0 probability:
P(home clean sheet) = P(home win to nil) + P(0-0)
That identity is a useful error check. If your clean-sheet probability is smaller than your win-to-nil probability for the same team and period, the score buckets are wrong.
Offered odds of 3.00 imply 33.33% before adjusting for bookmaker margin. Offered odds of 4.50 imply 22.22%. Compare like with like: the broader clean-sheet outcome should have at least as much true probability as win to nil, although displayed prices can contain different margins and limits.

How both teams to score No differs
BTTS No wins whenever at least one team fails to score. It does not require you to nominate which team keeps the clean sheet.
For a full score model:
P(BTTS No) = P(home scores zero) + P(away scores zero) - P(0-0)
The subtraction prevents 0-0 from being counted twice.

Settlement period, own goals and later corrections
Standard football settlement normally uses 90 minutes plus injury time. Extra time and penalty shoot-outs do not count unless the market explicitly says they do.
An own goal is still a goal for the team credited in the official result. It therefore breaks the opponent's clean sheet. The identity of the scorer is irrelevant to these team‑level markets.
Check the operator's rules for:
- abandoned or postponed matches;
- official score corrections;
- whether a market covers a half, full match or tournament;
- whether extra time is explicitly included;
- obvious price errors and void conditions.
Example: a cup tie ends 0-0 after 90 minutes and 1-0 after extra time. A standard 90-minute home clean-sheet bet wins, home win to nil loses and BTTS No wins. An extra-time-inclusive market can settle differently.
