Over 8.5 Corners Meaning and How SportyBet Settles Corners
SportyBet's football rules say it in one line:
“Only taken corners will be considered, corners awarded but not taken would not be counted.”
This page explains how corner bets settle. It does not predict how many corners a match will have, so skip it if you are looking for tips.

How many corners does each line need?
A corner total counts both teams together. SportyBet defines its main corner total on regular time:
“Predict whether the total number of corners at regular time is over/under a given line.”

A home or away corner total works the same way, but counts only that team's corners. A match can go over 8.5 while one team stays under its own line.

The arithmetic starts only after the official count is known. Time of award, time taken, retakes, abandonment and extra time remain operator‑specific.
Which corners count?
Three things decide the count on a corner bet.
The corner must be taken. SportyBet, BetKing and 1xBet all say an awarded corner that is never kicked does not count. BetKing gives the usual case:
“Only corners taken will count. Corners that have been awarded but not taken (e.g., the half-time whistle goes before the corner is taken) will not count.”
A retaken corner counts once. BetKing and 1xBet both say so:
“A corner kick which was retaken will be regarded as just one corner kick for bet settlement purposes.”
SportyBet's rules text does not mention retakes. If a retake changes your result there, ask SportyBet support which count it used.
Only regular time counts. SportyBet's general football rule covers every market that is not a first-half, extra‑time or penalty market:
“All markets (except halftime, first-half markets, overtime and penalty shootout) are considered for regular time plus injury time.”
So corners in extra time do not count towards a normal corner bet, and corners in stoppage time do.

For Odd/Even, zero corners is even:
“Predict whether the total number of corners in the match will be odd or even. No corner counts as even.”
Which minute counts for a corner bet?
In a time-band bet, such as corners from minute 1 to 15, the corner belongs to the minute it is kicked, not the minute the referee points to the flag:
“Corner interval markets are settled based on the time the corner kick is taken and not the time the corner is conceded or awarded.”
Corners in first-half added time still count for the last band of the first half:
“For all 5 min/10 min/15 min interval markets, related to interval minutes 41- 45/31-40/31-45, events (goals, corners) in added injury or stoppage time will be accounted for.”
So a corner kicked in the 45+2nd minute counts in SportyBet's 31-45 or 41-45 band. The rule names only those first-half bands, so check the market before betting on a band at the end of the second half. A corner given in the 15th minute but taken in the 16th belongs to the 16‑30 band.

1xBet's two minute rules, word for word:
“the time that the event was actually performed is taken.”
“the time that the event was awarded by the referee is taken.”
The first applies to its First To Happen bets and the second to its 1 Minute Markets. UK operators such as bet365 also count only taken corners and count a retake once. The receipt and the rules of the operator you used always decide.
If you price a corner line yourself
An average is not a price. If the last ten matches averaged 10.2 corners, over 9.5 is not a 50 per cent bet: one 18-corner match can lift the average while most matches stayed under. Look at the spread as well.

If you estimate a 54 per cent chance of over 9.5, the fair decimal price is
1 / 0.54 = 1.85. At 1.80 the price is below your estimate; at 1.95 it is
above it. That only helps if your 54 per cent is right, and one match can
still go either way. In play, four corners in the first 20 minutes does not
mean 18 over 90 minutes: score, red cards and substitutions change the pace.
A corner line is not a safer bet than a goal line. Set a limit before you bet; the responsible gambling guide lists practical support and limit tools.

Frequently asked questions
What does over 8.5 corners mean?
The match needs 9 or more corners in regular time for over 8.5 to win. With 8 or fewer, under 8.5 wins. Both teams' corners count together.
Does a corner that is awarded but not taken count?
No. SportyBet, BetKing and 1xBet all count only corners that are actually taken. If the whistle goes before the kick, that corner is not counted.
What happens if a corner is retaken?
BetKing and 1xBet count a retaken corner once. SportyBet's rules text does not mention retakes, so ask its support if a retake changes your result.
Does extra time count for corner bets?
No. SportyBet settles its markets on regular time plus injury time, so stoppage-time corners count and extra‑time corners do not.
Which minute counts in a 15-minute corner bet?
On SportyBet, the minute the corner kick is taken. Corners in first-half added time count for the last first‑half band.
What do 7+ corners and 6+ corners mean?
At least seven or at least six corners in the period named on the market, counted the same way as a corner total.
