A valid line uses 0.25 steps. A quarter line splits the stake equally across the adjacent half and whole lines. This resolver does not decide the settlement period, abandonment rule or official score source.
What does handicap betting mean?
A handicap is an adjustment used only to settle a market. The favourite usually receives a negative line and the underdog a positive line.
If Team A is ‑1.5:
adjusted Team A score = Team A goals - 1.5
If Team B is +1.5:
adjusted Team B score = Team B goals + 1.5
Compare the adjusted score with the opponent's actual score. The line does not change league points, tournament qualification or the official result.

A half-goal line cannot produce an adjusted tie because football scores use whole goals. That removes the refund outcome which can exist on a whole Asian line.
The plus sign does not mean the underdog must lose. A +1.5 selection also wins if the team draws or wins the real match.

At Team A ‑1:
- a two-goal or larger Team A win wins the bet;
- a one-goal Team A win produces an adjusted tie and a refund under standard two‑way Asian‑line settlement;

At Team B +1:

- a one-goal Team B loss produces an adjusted tie and refund;

Always confirm whether the receipt is an Asian/two-way handicap. A three-way handicap can include a separate handicap-draw selection and therefore settle differently.
How do +0.25 and -0.75 quarter lines work?
An Asian quarter line splits the stake equally across the adjacent whole and half lines.
For a 20-unit stake on Team B +0.25:
- 10 units are settled at Team B 0;
- 10 units are settled at Team B +0.5;
- if the match draws, the 0 portion is refunded and the +0.5 portion wins;
- if Team B wins, both portions win;
- if Team B loses, both portions lose.
For a 20-unit stake on Team A ‑0.75:
- 10 units are settled at Team A ‑0.5;
- 10 units are settled at Team A ‑1;
- if Team A wins by one, the -0.5 portion wins and the ‑1 portion is refunded;
- if Team A wins by two or more, both portions win;
- if the match draws or Team A loses, both portions lose.
This split is why quarter-line results are sometimes described as half-win or half-loss outcomes. Calculate the two portions separately rather than relying on the label.
For Team B +1.75, split a 20-unit stake into 10 units at +1.5 and 10 at +2.0:

A positive +1.75 football line cannot produce a standalone full refund or half win at a whole-goal margin. The refund is the +2.0 component of the half-loss case. The mirror -1.75 line produces a half win when the selected team wins by exactly two because -1.5 wins while ‑2.0 refunds.

"Half win" represents one winning half-stake and one refunded half-stake. The table assumes the common two-way Asian-line construction and the stated match period. Read the applicable rules before using it for a real receipt.
Asian handicap versus three-way handicap
An Asian handicap commonly removes the draw as a betting selection by using refunds or split settlements. A three-way handicap offers home, handicap draw and away after the adjustment.
Example: Team A wins 2-1 and the three-way handicap is Team A -1. After adjustment the score is 1-1. The handicap-draw selection can therefore win. In a two-way Asian market at Team A -1, the Team A selection would normally be refunded.
The underlying match is identical. The market structure changes the result. Copy the full market name, not just "‑1".
What does handicap 0:1 or 1:0 mean?
On SportyBet the three-way handicap is written as a starting score in brackets: Handicap 0:1, Handicap 1:0, Handicap 0:2 and so on, with the selections Home, Draw and Away. The rule itself is one line:
“Predict the winner in regular time taking in consideration the handicap in brackets.”
The rule does not say which side the bracket favours, so we read it from the prices. On 23 September 2026, SportyBet Nigeria priced Napoli against Frosinone with Napoli at 1.49 to win. In Handicap 0:1, Home (0:1) was 2.25, almost the same as Napoli -1.5 on the Asian line (2.20). That only fits if Frosinone starts one goal up: the score in brackets is added to the real score, home first.

So Home (0:1) needs the home team to win by two or more, Draw (0:1) wins on a one-goal home win, and Away (0:1) wins on a draw or an away win. Handicap 1:0 is the mirror image, with the home team starting a goal up. There is no refund in a three-way handicap; one of the three always wins.
If a settled handicap bet looks wrong, ask the bookmaker which side the bracket applied to. Only the operator's settlement is binding.
Compare the price and line together
A move from -0.5 to -0.75 is not just a price change. It changes the settlement distribution. Compare offers only when the team, period, line and market format match.
Convert the decimal price to a raw threshold:
raw break-even probability = 1 / decimal odds
At 1.95, the raw threshold is 51.28 percent. That does not by itself show value. Your estimate must reflect the chance of every possible settlement, including a half win, refund or half loss where relevant.

How do live handicaps use the current score?
Some live handicaps are settled as if the score were 0-0 from the time of the bet; others apply the displayed line to the final match score. The market label and rules decide which interpretation is correct.
Before accepting a live handicap, record:
- current score and match minute;
- team and exact line;
- full-match, remaining‑time or period wording;
- whether extra time counts;
- accepted odds and timestamp.
Do not reconstruct these details from memory after the match. The same "+0.5" label can describe different contracts when the period changes.
